About this resource
Enables defendants with mental health issues to forgo their trial rights and instead obtain court-mandated mental health treatment.
Intake Process: Typically, defense attorneys submit referrals via email to clinical court services (SMC-MHC.courtservices@kingcounty.gov) including the following details: Client name, Case number(s), Client contact/location (whether in custody or not, facility, email/phone, etc.), Upcoming court date, Charge(s), and Additional Information (provider, diagnosis, housing details, etc.).
Costs: None.
Who can use this
- Defendants must face Seattle City misdemeanant charges (i.e. have been arrested by the Seattle Police Department for the current charge) and possess a mental health diagnosis, be willing to participate in behavioral health care, and comply with court requirements. Treatment that is clinically necessary must be accessible. DV and DUI cases need prosecutor approval.
