About this resource
This program provides monthly financial assistance to adults and children with disabilities whose income and resources are under specific financial limits. In Washington, there is an extra state supplement available, and clients automatically qualify for Medicaid and food assistance.
Intake Process: To begin, individuals can call to set up an appointment at a local office or submit an application online. When applying for SSI, applicants will be prompted to indicate if they wish to apply for food benefits, with options including the Basic Food Benefits plan or WASHCAP (Washington State Combined Application Program) benefits.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- SSI benefits are available to low-income individuals aged 65 and older, or those younger than 65 who are blind or disabled. WASHCAP is specifically for SSI recipients who are at least 18 years old, do not earn income, and either live alone or prepare food separately from others in their household.
