Washington Gorge Action Programs
Community Resource
About this resource
This initiative provides essential support to clients who qualify for HEN, including basic necessities such as toiletries, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry and dish soap, and bus passes. If funding permits, financial aid may cover rent, utilities, and moving expenses. Clients must first apply through DSHS; once approved, they can contact Washington Gorge Action Programs.
Intake Procedure: Applicants should call to initiate the process.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this assistance.
Who can use this
- Only clients deemed eligible for HEN by DSHS can receive assistance. Washington Gorge Action Programs will confirm eligibility and evaluate the client’s risk of homelessness to see if they qualify for financial support, though such aid is not guaranteed; all clients can access essential needs assistance. Criteria for Housing and Essential Needs Grant Funds include individuals living outdoors, in unsuitable buildings, emergency shelters, temporary housing, or escaping domestic violence. Indicators of substantial risk include eviction notices, utility shut-off warnings, or late payment notifications. Additional considerations may involve overcrowded living situations, condemned residences, sudden utility cost increases, disabilities, chronic health issues, past institutionalization, mental health or substance abuse history, credit issues affecting housing access, pending rental property foreclosure, recent discharge from facilities, or homelessness within the last year. Each client's options will be evaluated, including support from friends, family, churches, social services, or other housing alternatives.
