About this resource
This program offers monthly payments to individuals who have previously worked or those unable to work due to a disability. Payments may begin after the sixth full month of the disability. Additionally, recipients of SSDI might qualify for Medicare benefits.
Application Process: To apply, individuals can call to schedule an appointment at a local Social Security office or submit an application online. The Social Security Administration may expedite applications for individuals with certain rare diseases and cancer.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- Eligibility is partly based on the applicant's employment history, requiring five years of work in the last decade and sufficient credits to be considered 'insured', along with a severe disability lasting at least 12 months or leading to death.
