About this resource
This program provides monthly financial assistance to both adults and children with disabilities whose income and resources fall below certain thresholds. In Washington, there is an extra state supplement available, and clients are automatically qualified for Medicaid and food assistance.
Application Process: Interested individuals should call to set up an appointment at a local office or may apply online. Those applying for SSI will be given the option to also apply for food benefits, choosing between the Basic Food Benefits program or WASHCAP (Washington State Combined Application Program).
Costs: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- Eligible low-income clients aged 65 and older, or those under 65 who are blind or disabled, can receive SSI benefits, while WASHCAP is available for SSI recipients who are at least 18, have no earned income, and either live alone or prepare food separately from others in their household.
