Application Process: Individuals can fill out a retirement application either online or at a local office. To obtain a replacement Social Security card, applications can also be submitted online or in-person. Users must establish an account on the Social Security website to utilize online services.

Costs: There are no fees associated.

Who can use this

  • Individuals aged 62 and older who have sufficient work history to qualify for benefits. They can choose to retire at 62 for a reduced benefit or wait until 65 for full benefits. Certain family members may also qualify for monthly benefits from a deceased worker, including: a widow or widower aged 60 or older (or 50 if disabled), a widow or widower of any age caring for the deceased’s child under 16 or disabled, an unmarried child under 18 or developmentally disabled, and parents aged 62 or older who were financially dependent on the deceased.
