About this resource

This program provides monthly financial aid to both adults and children with disabilities whose income and resources are below certain financial thresholds. Washington also offers an extra state supplement, and participants automatically qualify for Medicaid and food assistance.

Intake Process: To apply, individuals can either call to set up an appointment at a local office or submit an application online. Those applying for SSI will be given the option to apply for food assistance and can select either the Basic Food Benefits plan or WASHCAP (Washington State Combined Application Program) benefits.

Costs: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

Eligible low-income clients aged 65 and older or those under 65 who are blind or disabled can receive SSI benefits. WASHCAP is designated for SSI recipients who are at least 18 years old, do not earn income, and live independently or purchase and prepare food separately from others in their household.
