Support is available for individuals seeking restraining and protection orders in family law matters to ensure their safety.

Intake Procedure: To be seen by the Family and Juvenile Court on the same day when requesting a Protection Order, it is advisable to arrive before 10am. This timing allows for paperwork to be completed by 11am for court hearings. If applicants cannot finish the paperwork in time, they can take it home and return the next day, provided they remain safe. In urgent situations where there is a significant risk of physical harm to the applicant or their children, hearings may be scheduled later in the day if paperwork is not completed by 1:30pm. Such emergency cases will be directed to court administration to arrange for a judicial officer to address the matter later. Applicants are required to fill out forms requesting a Temporary Order for Protection, detailing the most recent incident or threat and providing a history of prior incidents. Initial hearings occur every court day.
