This program offers support to eligible families aiming to construct their own homes in cooperative groups.

Costs: Applicants are responsible for the credit report fee and must start mortgage payments once their home is completed.
Who can use this
- Families with low income (at or below 80% of the median income for Skagit/Whatcom) are eligible. They need to earn enough to cover mortgage payments (approximately $40,000 annually) and commit to 35 hours per week at the construction site during the home-building process, which lasts just over a year. Half of these hours should be contributed by the builder, while the remaining can be provided by family and friends. A satisfactory credit history is also required.
