MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS PHONE # 208-737-5981 DISTRICT OFFICE: The seven health districts in Idaho collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local entities. Each district operates independently, governed by a board of health appointed by county commissioners. They cater to local demands, providing diverse services that can differ from one district to another. These services encompass community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, with many being offered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about available services in your area, reach out to your local Public Health District. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for readiness and response to bioterrorism and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the ecosystem. **Environmental Health Programs encompass: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs include: Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Plan Reviews, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers Family Planning services that include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and sexually transmitted disease screenings), and referrals. Various birth control methods are available. Educational materials can be requested. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health districts provide routine vaccinations for children through clinics at the health district or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for parents who cannot afford them. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should contact the local health district for specific vaccine requirements. Adult vaccines, such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza vaccines, may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps you and your doctor keep track of your immunizations and ensures you receive the necessary vaccines when needed. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that provides healthy foods each month through WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, referrals to healthcare providers, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials.
