About this resource
The MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS can be reached at 208-321-2215, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 is at 208-321-2222. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district operates independently and has a health board appointed by county commissioners. They cater to local requirements, offering diverse services that may differ among districts, such as community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs. Many services are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the latest information on community services, contact your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a comprehensive statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems, including Day Care, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), and Public Pools. Land Development Programs cover Mortgage Surveys, Public Water Systems, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH services encompass Family Planning, which includes education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Educational materials and speakers can be requested for community presentations. Temporary Medicaid applications for prenatal care are also offered. IMMUNIZATIONS are provided through local health departments, offering routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost for those unable to pay. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the local health department, which will bill insurance. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps track vaccination history. The WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM supplies healthy foods monthly through WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, and referrals to healthcare providers. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children under five. The WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance that covers these tests, meeting income guidelines and age criteria. Languages available include English, with interpreters accessible. For intake, call for general information, locations, and appointments; immunizations and WIC services are available on the first Thursday of the month by appointment.
