About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-533-3145. Idaho consists of seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and other state and local organizations. Each district features a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. They cater to local requirements, offering diverse services that may differ across districts, including community health nursing, environmental health, health promotion, preparedness, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For updated service information, contact your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health entities to create a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs address how human health connects with the environment and local ecosystems, covering areas such as daycare, food and waterborne illness epidemiology, food establishment permits, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs include regulations on critical materials, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Family Planning services offer education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Educational resources and speakers can be provided for community events upon request, and emergency contraception is accessible. Immunizations are administered by local health departments, offering routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost, as well as overseas immunizations by appointment. Adult vaccines like Td boosters, hepatitis, pneumonia, and influenza may also be available. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps track immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers. The WIC program supports women, infants, and children with healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education, and referrals to healthcare providers. It serves pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants under one year, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured women who meet specific income guidelines. Languages available include English and Spanish.
