The Seasonal Head Start program is available from May to November, coinciding with the harvesting season. Centers function for twelve hours each day, typically from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and offer complimentary transportation for children, along with two meals and two snacks daily, as well as free preventative health, dental, developmental, and speech screenings. The educational focus is primarily in the children's first language, catering mostly to migrant children of Hispanic origin, along with other migrant youth. This nationwide preschool initiative serves children from income-eligible families who have not yet enrolled in kindergarten, with local nonprofit organizations managing the centers across the country. Applications are welcomed for children aged 0 to 5 years, particularly from families with incomes below poverty levels, as well as those with special needs or high-risk backgrounds. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may also be accepted. The program addresses children's medical, dental, educational, and social service requirements at no cost. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birth date, and immunization records. Head Start also offers supportive services such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and disability support. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, providing assistance through quality education and family-centered services. Parents are encouraged to participate as volunteers, and the program includes positive parenting classes for families.
