Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, as well as various state and local organizations. Environmental Health initiatives focus on the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishments, indoor air quality, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs address regulations on critical materials, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventory, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (with cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, as well as a variety of birth control methods. Immunization services are provided through local health departments, offering low-cost or free routine childhood vaccinations, overseas immunizations by appointment, and adult vaccines. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that keeps track of immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, individual counseling with dietitians, and breastfeeding support, serving pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five.
