Each district is governed by a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for addressing bio-terrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This encompasses programs that address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs include: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Public Pools.**Land Development Programs include: Mortgage Surveys; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections).REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH: Offers Family Planning services, which consist of education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screenings, STD screenings, and HIV testing), and referrals. Most birth control methods are available. Educational resources and speakers can be provided for community presentations upon request. Applications for temporary Medicaid cards for prenatal care are also available.IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that helps you and your doctor keep track of your immunizations and ensures you receive only the necessary vaccines at the right times. Always bring your immunization records to each appointment.WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental Nutrition Program providing healthy foods monthly via WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, and referrals to healthcare providers. Individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials are also available.
