Kootenai County Property Tax Reduction Program - County Assessors

The Circuit Breaker Program provides a reduction in property taxes for qualifying residents of the county who are 65 years or older, own and occupy their home, and meet specific income criteria (income must be $28,000 or less for 2011). Applications can be obtained at the office, and for seniors who are unable to visit in person, processing is conducted by appointment only. The application period runs from January 1st to April 15th each year. Eligible individuals may include those who are 65 or older, widowed, blind, a child under 18 who is fatherless or motherless, former prisoners of war or hostages, veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more, or individuals recognized as disabled by Social Security Administration, Railroad Retirement, or Federal Civil Service. Services are available in English.

Intake Procedure: Applications are accepted from January 1 to April 15; applicants must visit the office to complete the application form and should bring documentation of medical expenses and tax returns if applicable.
