Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district has its own board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. The services offered may differ by district and include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare.
