Head Start (Salmon) Eicap

Head Start is a nationwide preschool initiative designed for children from families that meet income eligibility requirements. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 3 to 5 years. Families must have incomes that fall below poverty guidelines, and the program also accommodates children with special needs or those considered at high risk. A limited number of children from slightly higher income brackets with special needs may also be accepted. The program addresses various needs, including medical, dental, educational, and social services, all at no cost. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birth date, and immunization records. Head Start offers a range of supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and assistance for disabilities, along with medical and dental transportation vouchers. The program aims to enrich the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, helping families navigate challenges through quality education and family-centered services. It serves low-income children ages 3 to 5, providing a five-day-a-week program for four hours each day, during which two meals are served.
