DISTRICT OFFICE: The seven health districts in Idaho collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local needs by offering diverse services, which can differ from one district to another. These services encompass community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health districts administer routine childhood vaccinations at clinics held at the health district office or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are offered at low or no cost for parents who are unable to pay. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Contact the local health district for details on necessary vaccines for specific travel destinations. Travelers receiving vaccines from the health district will be responsible for the vaccine costs.
