Ywca Cortland
Community Resource
About this resource
The program provides a wide range of support services for adult and child victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes. This includes accompanying victims to various locations such as police stations, hospitals, the YWCA safe dwelling, Department of Social Services, and court, while also informing them of their rights and legal options. Additionally, assistance is offered in applying for crime victims compensation, along with a 24-hour confidential hotline that provides support, intervention options, and information on victims' rights. Referrals are available for family court clerks, private attorneys, legal aid services, public defenders, or police departments to help obtain orders of protection and custody petitions. The program also offers education on the cycle of violence and forms of domestic abuse and sexual assault, as well as basic necessities like food and clothing, and emergency safe housing for women victims and their children. Male victims have access to safe alternative housing and ongoing lay counseling from advocates as they navigate their healing journey.
