Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program - Ecdoh

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (Child Lead) oversees the management of children suffering from lead poisoning in Erie County. It focuses on identifying potential lead exposure and preventing further incidents among affected children. The program conducts investigations and offers guidance to parents or guardians of children under 18 who have been found to have elevated blood lead levels. According to New York State Guidelines, all children should be screened for lead at ages one and two, and annually up to age six if they have certain risk factors, such as living in homes built before 1978. Child Lead's activities include: managing cases for children with high blood lead levels, providing information on lead exposure sources and reduction strategies, offering medical treatment options for affected children and pregnant women, facilitating free lead testing for children under six, and connecting families with resources for lead hazard reduction, including community training and grant opportunities.
