Youthworks - Town Of Amherst Youth & Recreation Department

This year-round program serves as a bridge between Amherst residents who require help with various tasks around their homes and youth aged 12-20 from Amherst who are eager to assist. Teens interested in participating complete an application specifying the types of jobs they are willing to undertake. Residents can reach out to request assistance, outlining the specific tasks they need help with. A participating teen is then informed about the job opportunity, receiving all necessary details along with the resident's contact information. The teen will then communicate with the resident to agree on the timing of the job and the payment. For safety reasons, requests that involve climbing ladders, roof work, moving heavy items up or down stairs, or any tasks requiring driving are not accepted. Available job opportunities include raking, shoveling, mowing, weeding, gardening, tutoring, putting away groceries, running errands, pet care, child care, assisting the elderly or disabled, computer tutoring, cleaning basements or garages, helping with parties, and light housekeeping.

Intake Procedure: Teens interested in working should discuss the YouthWorks program with their parents, and if they wish to proceed, they should complete an application and send it to Lorraine Lee at the Youth and Rec office located at 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221. Fees: There are no fees to participate. The payment for the work done by youth should be negotiated between the two parties, but it should not be less than the minimum wage for the first hour, and for each additional hour worked. Youth should receive their payment at the end of each working day.
