Generally, it is a one-time benefit during the program year. Emergency Benefits are offered to those eligible for HEAP who face an energy-related crisis, like a power shutoff or insufficient heating fuel. Households must pass a resource test, and benefit amounts can differ. Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefits are accessible for fixing or replacing essential heating systems. Cooling Assistance Benefits help purchase and install air conditioning units or fans for individuals with documented medical conditions worsened by heat, provided they have previously received a regular benefit exceeding $21. Clean and Tune Benefits cover the cleaning of heating equipment and may also include chimney cleaning and minor repairs, with costs up to $400.
