Career Preparatory High School

This special education high school is dedicated to meeting the social, emotional, vocational, and academic needs of its students. Its instructional approach combines individual and cooperative learning techniques. Each student receives individual and small group counseling services as required by their IEP. There are vocational/work-based programs available in areas such as food preparation, automotive technology, and woodshop. Students can also enroll in college courses through SUNY Farmingdale State College while fulfilling their high school requirements. They have the opportunity to earn either a Regents or Local Diploma, as well as the Career Development and Occupational Studies Commencement Credential. Over the years, CPHS has partnered with Hofstra University and Nassau Community College, allowing students to experience college life with support from Nassau BOCES staff. At Nassau Community College, students can earn college credits and access various campus opportunities, while Hofstra University allows them to attend high school classes on campus and gain practical work experience. The program includes the Rebound Program, which features a more structured environment with 6:1:2 classrooms, offering a flexible curriculum alongside counseling. Additionally, CPHS provides the Individualized Learning Academy, a half-day program designed for students with emotional disturbances who exhibit severe challenging behaviors and require a shortened day with tailored instruction.
