This initiative offers a range of programs and services designed to boost employability, promote independence, and support the development of skills and strengths in individuals who are legally blind. Key offerings include the Equipment Loan Fund, which enables individuals to borrow up to $4,000 for purchasing adaptive equipment. There are also children's services tailored for legally blind youth, which encompass early intervention rehabilitation, empowering parents, arranging supplementary educational services, and facilitating a smooth transition to adult services. Additionally, vocational rehabilitation programs for youth aged 14 to 21 provide services like assessments, information and referrals, casework, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology support. Independent living services are available for those not eligible for vocational rehabilitation or other NYSCB programs, focusing on individual needs and may include orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.
