Gary D. Bixhorn Technical Center

This initiative supports students with disabilities from various component school districts by offering a dedicated learning space tailored to their needs as specified by the Committees on Special Education (such as 12-1-1 and 8-1-1). The program is available at the Gary D. Bixhorn Technical Center, the Islip Career Center, and Harry B. Ward Technical Center for high school students aged 15.5 years by September 1st until they reach 21. Special Career Education (SCE) aims to equip all students with the necessary technical and academic skills for future job opportunities and pathways to college or other post-secondary education. SCE focuses on providing practical training that prepares students for successful careers, ensuring they acquire the skills essential for entering the workforce or pursuing further education. Students are encouraged to explore different fields of study while developing the necessary competencies to thrive in today's competitive job market, all while learning to manage their disabilities in a professional setting.
