About this resource
The SNAP program, which was previously called Food Stamps, provides monthly financial assistance for food purchases to households with low income. The criteria for income and resources differ based on factors such as age, health, household size, and expenses. Applications for SNAP can be submitted online at https://mybenefits.ny.gov/mybenefits/begin or by filling out a form designated by New York State and either mailing it or delivering it in person to the Department of Social Services. Additionally, Temporary Assistance is available, which is a cash aid program contingent on income and resources, and can be provided either regularly or in response to urgent needs for housing or utilities. For more information, visit the NY State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance website at otda.ny.gov. You can apply for Temporary Assistance similarly, either online at https://mybenefits.ny.gov/mybenefits/begin or by completing a New York State form and submitting it to the Department of Social Services.
