About this resource

This program provides financial aid to families with children who are experiencing low income, assisting them in their journey towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance aims to cover essential needs like food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) initiative, which aids in earning a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will reach out to arrange an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also initiate contact with the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS staff cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not have the applicant's name in the greeting.

Travel/Location: Accessible via LTD bus lines 12, 66, and 67.

Fees: There are no associated fees.

Who can use this

  • Eligible applicants include low-income families with children under 18, pregnant women in their ninth month, or parents under 18 who are heads of their households, who reside in Oregon and have minimal income and resources.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
