This initiative provides monetary assistance to families with children who are facing financial hardships, aiding them in their journey to achieve self-sufficiency. The cash support is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utility expenses. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which focuses on helping individuals earn their high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.
Application Steps: Individuals can apply through online platforms, via phone, or by visiting a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to arrange an interview, either in person or over the phone - Applicants have the option to directly contact the local DHS office to schedule their interview - DHS representatives cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18, pregnant women in their ninth month, or parents under 18 who are heads of their households, residing in Oregon, with minimal income and resources, and must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
