About this resource
This initiative provides financial aid to families with children who are facing low income, helping them on their journey to independence. The cash assistance aims to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utility bills. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports individuals in earning a high school diploma or GED, alongside job readiness and essential life skills.
Intake Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: - The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants can also initiate contact with the local DHS office to arrange the interview - DHS representatives are unable to leave messages on voicemails lacking the applicant's name in the greeting.
Fees: There are no associated costs.
Who can use this
- To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their ninth month, reside in Oregon, and have minimal income and resources; applicants must also be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
