About this resource
This program provides financial aid to low-income families with children, assisting them in achieving self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover fundamental necessities like food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) initiative, which helps individuals obtain their high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.
Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting an application: - The local DHS office will reach out to the applicant to schedule an in-person or phone interview - Applicants may also contact the local DHS office to arrange their interview - DHS representatives cannot leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- - Families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month, where the parent is the head of the household and under 18 - Must reside in Oregon - Must have very low or no income and minimal resources (such as property, vehicles, or bank accounts). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens. Non-citizen parents can apply for benefits on behalf of their U.S. citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
