About this resource
This initiative provides financial aid to low-income families with children, helping them work towards becoming self-sufficient. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may have the opportunity to join the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which supports individuals in earning a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and essential life skills.
Intake Process: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: -The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview -Applicants may also contact the local DHS office to arrange the interview -DHS representatives cannot leave messages on voicemails that lack the applicant's name in the greeting.
Costs: There are no fees associated with this program.
Who can use this
- - Families with low income and children under 18, or pregnant women in their ninth month, or parents under 18 who are heads of household - Must reside in Oregon - Must have minimal or no income and limited resources (like property, vehicles, or bank accounts) - Applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens, with non-citizen parents able to apply for benefits for their U.S. citizen children.
Documents you may need
- Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
