About this resource

This initiative provides financial aid to low-income families with children as they work towards self-sufficiency. The cash assistance is designed to cover essential needs like food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Participants in the TANF program may also have the opportunity to engage in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which helps individuals earn a high school diploma or GED, along with job readiness and life skills training.

Intake Procedure: Applications can be submitted online, via phone, or in person at a local office (note that Processing Centers do not provide in-person services). After submitting the application: -The local DHS office will reach out to schedule an in-person or phone interview -Applicants can also call the local DHS office to arrange the interview -DHS staff are unable to leave messages on voicemails that do not include the applicant's name in the greeting.

Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.

Who can use this

  • To qualify, applicants must be low-income families with children under 18 or pregnant women in their 9th month, reside in Oregon, have minimal income and resources, and be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.

Documents you may need

  • Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
