About this resource
Early Head Start is a home visiting initiative designed to encourage healthy pregnancies, support child development, and improve parenting skills. The program offers services such as home visits, social gatherings for parents and children to interact with others, parenting classes, goal setting, and networking opportunities for parents. Additionally, it provides center-based care for working families. A unique aspect of Early Head Start is its availability at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility through a collaboration with the Oregon Department of Corrections, where educators assist incarcerated mothers in bonding with their children, acquiring parenting skills, and preparing for their roles after release.
Intake Procedure: Interested individuals should call or check the website for details and registration.
Travel/Location: Accessible via TriMet bus line 94.
Fees: No charges apply.
Who can use this
- Eligible participants include pregnant individuals and families with children aged 0-3, particularly those with incomes at or below 100% of the federal poverty level. Special provisions exist for children in foster care, homeless children, and those from families receiving public assistance, who can qualify regardless of income. Families with higher incomes may also be considered if they have specific needs, with a focus on those with greater requirements. In the Coffee Creek Program, Head Start staff work with the Department of Corrections to assess eligibility for incarcerated mothers.
