About this resource
Head Start services aim to prepare children for school by fostering their social and cognitive development within a classroom environment. They offer a wide range of services, including educational, health, nutritional, and social support for both children and their families, with a particular focus on engaging parents. Services available for parents encompass parenting classes and opportunities for support and networking. Portland Public Schools administers Head Start services at nine locations for families with low incomes.

Fees: There are no fees associated with the program.
Who can use this
- Eligible families include those with children aged 3-5, particularly those with incomes at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Additionally, children in foster care, those experiencing homelessness, and those from families receiving public assistance (TANF, SNAP, or SSI) can qualify regardless of income. Families with higher incomes may also be considered if they have specific needs, but priority is given to those with greater requirements.
