About this resource
The Safe Haven law permits birth parents to surrender their newborns anonymously without incurring any legal penalties. In Utah, any hospital that operates 24 hours is recognized as a Safe Haven where newborns can be safely left. The Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) subsequently arranges for the child's immediate adoption.
Who can use this
- Newborns may be left at the hospital by the mother or an individual authorized by her.
