Head Start (Idaho Falls) Eicap

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that qualify based on income. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 3 and 5. Families must have incomes below poverty levels, with priority given to those in the most need. Eligible children must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1 and may include those with special needs or at high risk. A limited number of children from slightly higher income brackets with special needs may also be accepted. The program addresses various needs, including medical, dental, educational, and social services, all provided at no cost. Families are required to verify income, provide the child's birthdate, and submit immunization records. Supportive services offered by Head Start include social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and support for disabilities. The program aims to enrich the lives of children and families while providing quality education and family-centered services. Head Start serves low-income children ages 3 to 5 with a four-day weekly program lasting 3.5 hours, during which two meals are provided each day. Parents are encouraged to participate through volunteering and can also access positive parenting classes. Services are available in both English and Spanish.
