ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Environmental Health programs tackle issues where human health intersects with the physical environment and the ecosystem. **Environmental Health Programs encompass: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs include: Critical Materials Regulation; Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Rathdrum Aquifer Protection; Shallow Injection Well Inventory; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: This service offers Family Planning resources, including education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screenings, STD testing, and HIV testing), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available. Educational materials and speakers can be requested for community presentations. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments provide routine childhood vaccinations at clinics held at the health department or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are offered at low or no cost for parents who cannot afford them. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Contact your local health department to determine the specific vaccines required for travel destinations. Travelers receiving vaccines from the health department will need to pay for them. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be accessible. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that helps you, your family, and your doctor track immunizations and ensure you receive only the necessary vaccines. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, offering: monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, information about community resources, referrals to healthcare providers, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials.
