Child Care Council Of Nassau

The program creates and delivers professional development opportunities such as training, coaching, and technical assistance that align with the New York State Core Body of Knowledge Core Competencies for all types of child care, including Family, Group Family, Center, and School Age. It includes the 15-hour Foundations in Health & Safety Training mandated by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services (NYS OCFS) for new Family/Group Family providers, workshops on recruitment and business practices, and technical support for both new and prospective providers across all modalities. Additionally, it offers Medication Administration Training (MAT) for those responsible for administering medication to children and facilitates the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential for early childhood educators. Credentialed specialists with expertise in infant, toddler, preschool, and elementary/middle school development are available. The Council staff conducts engaging in-person professional development sessions at their location or at the request of community agencies. Training topics encompass all NYS OCFS required subjects for the 30 hours of mandated training, including child development, managing challenging behaviors, fostering family and community relationships, culturally responsive practices, assessment, curriculum development, health and safety, coping strategies for trauma, professionalism, leadership, administration, NYS OCFS regulations, national accreditation self-studies, and professional development planning. Bilingual services in English and Spanish are also offered.
