About this resource

Head Start services aim to prepare children for school by promoting their social and cognitive development within a classroom environment, while also offering educational, health, nutritional, social, and additional services to both children and their families. The program places a strong emphasis on engaging parents, providing them with resources such as goal-setting assistance, parenting classes, and networking opportunities. Additionally, Head Start operates at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in partnership with the Oregon Department of Corrections, where teachers support incarcerated mothers in bonding with their children, acquiring parenting skills, and preparing for life after release.

Intake Procedure: Interested individuals should call or visit the website for more information and registration.

Travel/Location: Accessible via TriMet bus line 57.

Fees: There are no fees associated with the program.

Who can use this

  • Families with children aged 3-5 are eligible, particularly those with incomes at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level. Special provisions are made for children in foster care, homeless children, and those from families receiving public assistance, regardless of income. Families with higher incomes may qualify based on specific needs, but those with greater needs are prioritized. For the Coffee Creek Program, Head Start staff work with the Department of Corrections to assess the eligibility of incarcerated mothers.
